Mother's Day Weekend

Friday we drove down to Statesboro to celebrate Mother's Day with Clay's mom. We tried a new restaurant, South & Vine Public House.  We started with ceviche which was delicious, I had scallops with angel hair, bacon and mushrooms which was a treat!  The place was packed...thanks to the combo of the holiday and Georgia Southern's graduation weekend.  The service was really stellar though especially considering how busy they were.
Killer and Lily went with us to Clay's mom's  house and they played and played.  Lily ate several chewy bones, got scared by the flashlight, smelled Jefferson the cat, and sniffed out critters in the yard.  Killer was content sitting with Clay's mom, eating lots of people food, and hoarding her chipmunks.
Saturday morning  Lily and I got up and went for a walk.  The weather was beautiful!  Wild blackberries were growing all along the side of the road but I didn't have anything to put them in so I picked up a random beer 12 pack that was just laying there.  I was surprised when I saw there was a black widow inside (Clay just got bitten by a black widow at home recently),  I slung it out and smooshed it, and then I used it to put berries in.

Saturday evening we went to Dudley and had Mother's Day dinner with mom, Mema, Johnannah, and Scott.  Sunday we actually were able to sleep late, even Lily slept in.  She and I went for a walk when we got up.  Then it was housework time and I went to weed and water the garden.

Day Shift Day One

Today was the first day on my new job.  After going to bed at a very reasonable time of 9:30pm I woke up easily at 6am.  I had made egg muffins last night from a recipe I found on Pinterest.  I just heated one up in the toaster oven for both me and Clay and had that an an English muffin for breakfast.  I have been on a kick of adding orange extract to my coffee which is delicious!

The bees seem to have acclimated well to their new hive, they were busy coming and going this evening when I got home.  The azaleas and wisteria are in full bloom.  The sun was beautiful and Lily and I immediately went for a walk/jog when I got home.  Then I made an interesting sweet and garlicky slaw with figs/prunes/garlic.  It was somewhat too pungent so I think I will roast the garlic first next time and I didn't have any dates so I used prunes instead.

Saturday Long Walk

Lily thoroughly enjoyed our off-roading down the road from the house where we found a lake, and people's houses on the lake and then we carefully snuck back into the woods.
Can't believe this lake was less than 2 miles from the house and had NO idea it was there.  I could just make out some water way down in the woods and I wasn't sure if it was a creek or lake/pond so Lily and I hiked through the woods down to it to check it out.

About 2.5 miles from the house after our road turns into a dirt road it crosses this creek, often in the summer it is just a dry bed but I could even hear it rushing from the road today.
Lily was stalking anything floating in the water.  I didn't see any minnows or anything fun for her to go after, I can't wait until she sees her first fish in the water!
She traipsed all through the woods and briars without thinking twice, before long I won't be able to get down to the creek with all the underbrush grown up.
Lily was scared of all the dogs we encountered on our walk but at least she wasn't afraid of our shadows.

Taking the cat on a walk

Tonight my husband agreed to go on the walk with me and the doggies. Alvin the cat decided to go too. She jingled along behind us and talked to us "meow, meow." We had a nice and slow 2 miles, I am starting to feel better today hopefully my cold is going away so I can hit the gym again.

Sorry for the blurry pic but they were moving and all my pics were blurry. It was just so funny that the cat went along.

We Did it!

Chico and Killer and I went for our first walk of 2012 today. This is #1 on my 5 quantifiable goals for week one of the Do Life Challenge. I told myself that I would walk them at least 2 times per week for the next month. That will encourage me to exercise a little more, but more important, it will be good for them. Prior to now I have never walked them regularly since I got Killer 5 years ago. They have a doggie door and access to outside all the time, but I feel like a bad doggie mom admitting to not walking them. = (

They had a good time. Neither is good on a leash, maybe this will improve over time. Chico wanted to pee on everything! We went a mile in a whopping 22 minutes. LOL

Rockin' Weekend

Weekend started off with a nice long 5-6 mile walk after getting off Saturday morning. Mom came up to visit and we trespassed into the beautiful woods and found this amazing clearing with the coolest rocks and moss. I may or may not have imagined that I was a fairy for a moment.

This place was so beautiful that I may have to trespass again for a picnic with the husband.

Found this cutie crossing the road on the way back. We took turns carrying him for a while and sprinkling him with our water bottle until we found a suitable spot to drop him off.

Clay is all smiles at the Rockapella concert.

Do it Rockapella!

After the concert, we walked over to Front Page News in ATL. It was beautiful patio weather and we hung out there until about 2AM and where I attempted to consume what must be the world's largest shrimp po boy. We stayed at a friends house that night and were treated to a pancake breakfast the next morning. We headed out in search of Crocs however ended up finding a better deal on the Croc website so ordered them online. I can't wait for mine to come in. I LOVE Crocs!!!

Strange Walking Partners

I came around the corner on my 4.3 mile walk/jog around the very HILLY neighborhood and saw what I thought was a pair of fake geese by the road. I quickly realized that I was mistaken and the geese hurried ahead of me into the road as if they were racing me. This is a new one for me. Had a wonderful time out in the SUNSHINE this morning! It was the perfect temperature. Cherry trees, pear trees, forsythia, daffodils, TULIPS *my favorite, and all sorts of other springy plants entertained me today.

More grocery goodies. Excited to try the cassava chips flavored with KAFFIR lime!! Also, I got some chips made from lentils and chick peas and flavored with cucumber dill, I couldn't wait and have already tried them...pretty darn tasty!

Breakfast this AM, shredded wheat, raisin bran crunch, banana, and chia seeds with almond milk. Good way to start the day even if my banana was a little overripe.
