Yard Work

We planted 2 new apple trees today in our "orchard".

Our 1st Christmas tree that we planted the first year in our new home is doing great!  It has grown a lot, just not quite quickly enough for us to hide the neighbor's tree removal equipment.

We got tree number 5 planted.

I planted some marigolds at the front of the entryway.  I had gotten them to put in the garden to keep rabbits away but there wasn't room for them so I planted them at the house instead.

I planted all the herbs I got the other day and I found a carrot that I had planted last year in one of the containers on the back porch, just one, but I was excited about it and I had it for supper = ).  Clay and I are going to meet my friend Lindsey tomorrow to go the botanical gardens in Atlanta.

I am much more excited about this carrot than I should be.

Puppy Shenanigans

Killer and Lily roughhousing.
They are ready to go.  Killer got herself all wiggled down behind the luggage so she could sit up straight.  They were not happy when we only went about 5 miles and dropped them off at the Vet.  Lily got spayed while we were gone.  Clay had his conference in Hiawassee and the cabin wasn't pet friendly.
Lily has decided she loves the bathtub.  She gets in now whenever we go in the bathroom and looks all expectant...like "hey! where is the water?"  Luckily she hasn't figured out how to turn on the water but I am sure that is coming.

She loves to keep her toenails clean.
After it rained last week, Lily dug a hole in the clay in the yard then hopped into bed and on me in the bed.  These are the days that Lily gets called "red devil" instead of Lily.
If my frisbee throwing skills would improve, I think that she could catch it already.  She does still fetch it though.
She is growing so fast, she is a little over 30lbs now.  Also, she is getting too big for the dog door so we are going to have to put in a larger one.
It was so cold one day recently and Lily was shivering a little so I put on one of Chico's old sweatshirts. She was not sure about it.
Sometimes, Lily has run around enough and decides to lay down and sleep right next to you on your pillow, sometimes she wants to dog-hug you while doing this.
Other times she chills out with Clay and watches television.

Beautiful Day!

Lily has got the cutest yawns.  Her giant tongue sticks way out and is pointy.  I wish I could get a good picture of it, I have never seen a tongue quite like it.

She was just hanging out with her dad this morning while we watched tv and the sun was glowing in.

While I was cooking the two pups decided to be nice to one another.  Killer did not even protest to being Lily's pillow.  They both like lying on the cushy foam rugs in the kitchen anyway but I like it that they were cuddling up to one another.

Meanwhile today I collected my couponing stuff and went to the grocery store with Clay and Eric when he arrived and I please myself by saving $60 and only using coupons on items that we would have purchased anyway.  I may have created a monster.

I was also feeling crafty so I started embroidering the onsies that I got for Allyson and Bekie's babies.  This was a lot of fun.  I just free-handed some little drawings on the onsie started sewing.

I was really please with the final product, I can't wait to start on the next oneThe crafting bug always gets me in the mood to start all kinds of projects so next off was baking.  I have 2 banana breads in the oven right now.
1. Pear, banana, cardamom, almond  2. Apple, banana, pecan, cinnamon.
If either turns out well I will post the recipes later.  No point in typing it up now it they are duds.  Which is possible since they were experiments.

Bringing home pup

On Friday we went over to Alabama to pick up our newest addition to the family.  Meet Lily Pad, our Vizsla puppy.  She was born in a litter of 12 ( 7 girls) and we got to choose.  We had watched several videos the breeder had sent and thought we had a good idea of which one we wanted, but once we started playing with all the little girls then we changed our minds a little.   We also got to see Bob and Claudia while we were there, we stopped with them for a late lunch in Anniston before picking up the puppy.

Our picks initially: I liked green, Clay liked pink, and mom liked purple.  Turns out purple won, pink was a close second though.  Green turned out to be a superior escape artist and we didn't want to always be worried that the pup was going to get out.  We stopped by Petsmart on the way home and rode Lily and Killer around in the shopping cart, she was excited to see new people and we got some toys for them both.  We also made her a little tag for her collar to make her all official and stuff.

Lily was checking out the puppy fish.  I was so excited to play with her and she and Clay had slept almost the whole ride home but it was pretty much bedtime when we got home.  She did great overnight, we were pleased with how well she adjusted.  We did however break down and decide we are going to let her sleep in the bed.  I mean really, we can't have Killer up in the bed and make Lily sleep on the floor.  I just dread the coming days of her giraffe legs kicking me in the night.  It is coming I am sure.

She is just the cutest thing!  Since she was one of 12 they are a little smaller at this age than they normally are which we were glad of.  We are hoping that will help  Killer get used to her and exert a little dominance before Lily gets too much bigger.  Killer is NOT sure about puppy yet, but I think she will warm up to her.

Mother's Day

I went down to Dudley for Mother's day.  I got to visit with Mema, Shelley, Walker, Norah, Johannah, Scott, Mom, Drew, and Sarah.  I hung out Saturday over at Aunt Johannah's with Mema, Shelley, and Norah.  She is about to have her first birthday.  We have the same birthday which I think is neat!  She is such a little doll, so well behaved!  She was holding my necklace and thought it was hilarious to pretend she was going to give it to me but when I reached for it she would pull it back.  You can see her little nose all scrunched up in the picture above, the first time she did this I was talking to her and I thought she was about to cry.  Come to find out she apparently makes that face when she is happy.  Too cute!

That evening mom and I went to Shaffer's in Dublin for dinner and had a great meal.  Then we went to TJ Maxx and got snacks to smuggle into the 10pm showing of Dark Shadows.  I had to work Sunday night so I was going to have to leave the next morning.  When we got in from the movie I whipped up an egg scramble with spinach and oats for the dogs since I forgot their dog food.  They ate then we all attempted to sleep.  Chico was driving me crazy wanting to go out 5-6 times per hour.  After 1.5 hours of this I put him in my car outside since the weather was nice and cool and the sun wasn't out to heat it.  Killer then started bothering me about going out so I put her in the car too so I could get a few hours of sleep. I went out to get them the next morning and my car was covered in throw up.  EWW!  Apparently the egg scramble did not sit well with either of them.  I spent the next half hour cleaning my car.  So much for getting home early in the morning so I could rest before going to work that night.  We went over to Johannah's and we had Tamales that her friend Myra made, some coffee, and a lemon bar.  I got to see Sarah (she was in Augusta shooting a wedding the day before).  Then I drove home, passed out for 3 hours and went to work.

Helen Trip

Took Killer out for her first hike today. We went about 4 miles total, very slowly. Chico had to mark every tree, bush, flower, grass, leaf, rock, and piece of sand so that other animals would know he had been there. Killer kept up the pace until the last quarter mile that was all uphill, I had to pick her up for a couple of minutes then she was right back at it. It was pretty cool early this morning so I was glad I had worn a long sleeve top over my t-shirt.

I dropped my driver's license out of my pocket somewhere along the way and realized it when I was getting ready to head back so I spent the whole hike back with my eyes on the ground looking for it. Luckily I didn't miss the 2 deer in the field where the path opens up. Chico and Killer did not miss them either. Both were chomping at the bits, barking, and Killer was licking her chops. I also found my license in that field where I had stopped and crouched earlier to take some photos of the doggies.

Neither of them were very impressed with the river, I think they were both having flash-backs from their baths yesterday. They were not looking to sit and enjoy the view there.

Not much else exciting going on, I have been playing chauffeur to Clay since we couldn't stay on site with the dogs. I did complete my essay and updated my resume for my application to the new position at work so I haven't been totally useless.

Taking the cat on a walk

Tonight my husband agreed to go on the walk with me and the doggies. Alvin the cat decided to go too. She jingled along behind us and talked to us "meow, meow." We had a nice and slow 2 miles, I am starting to feel better today hopefully my cold is going away so I can hit the gym again.

Sorry for the blurry pic but they were moving and all my pics were blurry. It was just so funny that the cat went along.

Good Job!

4 Things I did well today

1. Took dogs on first walk of 2012

2. Cleaned bathroom top to bottom

3. Killed my leg workout!

4. Ignored my #1 excuse all day and was super productive

We Did it!

Chico and Killer and I went for our first walk of 2012 today. This is #1 on my 5 quantifiable goals for week one of the Do Life Challenge. I told myself that I would walk them at least 2 times per week for the next month. That will encourage me to exercise a little more, but more important, it will be good for them. Prior to now I have never walked them regularly since I got Killer 5 years ago. They have a doggie door and access to outside all the time, but I feel like a bad doggie mom admitting to not walking them. = (

They had a good time. Neither is good on a leash, maybe this will improve over time. Chico wanted to pee on everything! We went a mile in a whopping 22 minutes. LOL

Headed Home

Last coffee and hanging out this morning in the mountains. Headed back home now, always bittersweet to end a vacation. Especially one as restful as this has been.
