Antelope Island 4

I know I keeping posting photos from Antelope Island but there were so many beautiful places there and neat things to see I had tons of pics and the upload to the blog takes a while so I have been staggering it to make it more manageable.

I climbed up to the top of this one big hill to get some photos looking out at the lake and started heading back down in a hurry since Clay was waiting. Luckily I was watching my feet because when I came around a corner a snake was poking its head out of some brush. I stopped abruptly and back up faster than I thought was possible until I was out of its reach then tried to zoom in enough to the brush to get a photo to show Clay. I had asked him earlier when we arrived on the island if he thought there were any snakes and neither of us was sure. You can just barely see him it the pic below just up and to the left of the greenery. Luckily there was another was down so I went back to the top and took the other (snakeless) trail down.

On that trail I did see a lizzard, which is ok by me!

You can see the trail winding down in the left side of this picture.

Me giving a good old hug to the buffalo.

Wouldn't want to hug this guy...he was taking a big poop, had to get a pic when I could though.

These buffalo were hanging out in the marsh.

Antelope Island 2 - Beach

The thousands of seagulls out here were very confused, they think this is the ocean.

More taste-testing.

It is VERY salty and tastes different than ocean water, more like throat gargling water.

Proof that we were in the salt lake, even his shadow took a dip.

It was a LONG walk out to the water, it looks like it was low tide, not sure if there are actually tides in the lake but it appeared that way. Will google that later today.

Like I said, it was a LONG walk.

The beach had sea oats just like at the ocean and the breeze was great! It was a little stinky though, think "Brunswick marsh stink".

The sand wasn't too bad, it wasn't powdery and didn't stick to your skin like beach sand. Clay said the brochure for Antelope Island stated that the sand was actually brine shrimp poop covered in minerals. Double eeeew! Glad they had showers to wash all that shrimpy excrement off.

After fueling up at the In N Out Burger we headed north to Antelope Island. You can drive out to it via a 7 mile causeway. We climbed up to the top of the rocks to look out over the lake and I couldn't resist taste testing the rock to see if it was salty. It wasn't, it just tasted like dirt. Eeew!

Clay has dubbed this the "poopie face," it really was my "there is a small horsefly in my ear" face.

Then we did get some good photos after I smashed the horsefly.
